This sloping desk in red lacquer is an English piece of furniture from the 18th century. The flap hides the writing desk. It is decorated with a "Chinese" scene of hunting. Horsemen with stakes are chasing a deer. In the background, three women and a child, dressed in traditional costumes, take shelter under parasols. Borrowing the hunting theme from the decorations made by Chinese lacquerers, this one is the work of a European artist who responded to the strong demand for exotic subjects as they were liked in the West in the 18th century.
