Our classic maps focus on the description of the data used for the management, operation and planning of the territory (geological framework, administrative boundaries, vegetation, road network, etc.). They make no room for other presences, those of animals with their invisible ways of inhabiting.
During a stay in Belval, artist residency of the François Sommer Foundation, Alexandra Arènes, landscape architect and Sonia Levy, artist, worked on a cartographic project, allowing to represent the territory animated by the presences of other living beings. They thus offer a new representation of the landscape, which restores the tangled network of the living.
These different materials: cartographic, sound, digital imagery, were presented to the museum as part of the exhibition “Animate the landscape / On the trail of the living”, and in issue 10 of the review Billebaude.
