Real. : Hassen Ferhani (Algeria - 2015 - 100 ′ - VOSTF) Preview in the presence of the director (released in theaters February 24) Thanks to Films de l'Atalante
It is in the slaughterhouses of Algiers, now abandoned in favor of a more recent structure and further from the center of the city, that Hassen Ferhani shoots his film. They constitute a formidable unity of place, since the workers not only get busy there but also sleep there, live there, spend leisure time there. This is where the filmmaker listens and investigates, to capture an image of the city today.
Among the animals, discussions begin, on everyday life as much as politics, on work as much as love. Wielding the art of framing with precision, Hassen Ferhani makes successive shots where the place and its inhabitants are revealed little by little, with humor and modesty. Far from focusing on the cruelty of the industry, the film shifts attention to individual desires, fears and stories.
