WHAT IS WHITE BEAR THE ICON?
PROPOSAL OF THE REVIEW Billebaude
In a few years, the polar bear has become the symbol of global warming. Its habitat is degraded, its tissues retain pollutants, it is a kind of "animal world" which carries on its shoulders the consequences of destructive human activities for the planet. The artists seized this emblem, environmental associations too. But how can the constitutive relations of the inhabitants of the Far North with the polar bear be maintained? Opposing visions of nature crystallize around the animal.
With Farid Benhammou and Rémy Marion, authors of Geopolitics of the polar bear (Hesse, 2016) and artists.
